Dairy Tour Canceled

Bad news for our Dairy Tour.  The Dairy is one big mud puddle.  I guess it rained there all night just like it did here.  I am so sorry to cancel the tour again!  Mike was sincerely apologetic and really feels bad that we keep getting postponed. He says we have an open invitation to try again whenever it is a good time for us.  If you are up for trying to set another date, please let me know.  I would be happy to coordinate and go- it really is worth the wait!  Thanks,

Dairy Tour Modified

Hi again everyone!
Thank you for your flexibility with our dairy tour.  I am beginning to learn that dairy work is definetly not a for-sure day to day schedule!  I just talked to Mike and he is worried about having all of us walking around in mud tomorrow with this storm hitting as I type.

He really wants us to come tomorrow though, so he thinks if we push it back one hour-to 11:00, everything can get dried out and cleaned up enough to have visitors.  I know with little ones, changing things even one hour throws off naptimes, lunchtimes, etc. and I am so sorry.  But I also want to be respectful of Mike as we are his guests and also realize that he has a lot more experience at dairies than I do and he knows what needs to be done after a storm.

This will mean we will meet and leave the church one hour later, lets try to leave the church at 10:40.  We usually eat lunch at our home at 11, so I am planning on letting the kids have a snack at the church parking lot, then taking them to burger king after the tour (to have mac and cheese of course, not burgers!!)  We would love to have anyone that wants to join us.

One more thing, please RSVP to  this email (and include a number to reach you)so I can be sure to call you if anything changes in the morning.  If the storm goes on all night and he has to cancel, Mike assured me he would call me at 7 am tomorrow morning so I can get the word out to you.  Thanks so much!!

Dairy Tour this Friday

We are headed to the dairy this Friday!  I wanted to remind you all to meet at the Faith Christian Family Parking lot (Norris and Llano) around 9:30 so we can leave right at 9:45.  It is a 15 minute drive on a good day :)  Can't wait to see you all!
p.s. Don't wash your cars until after Friday :)

Directions in case you miss the caravan:

Cross Country Dairy
Leaving the church, go North on Norris.

Turn Right on Pleasant Hill Hywy.  Continue East on Pleasant Hill until it curves to the left and DO NOT follow this curve!

Instead stay on the road that continues straight east until you get to a stop sign.

Turn North at this stop sign.  ( the road going east turns into a dirt road past this stop so if you find yourself on a dirt road you are not going the right way!)

Going North, you will go through one stop sign and then the Dairy will be on the right side of the road past mile marker 12.  It has a green roof.

We will all pull over there, meet up with our tour guide, then we will drive on into the dairy before going on our tour on foot.

Call me if you get lost!

April Service Project

Please remember to RSVP to Jenn  if you are interested in this community project  tomorrow or Saturday!!!

April Service Project

The nursing home, Beehive Homes of Clovis, 2305 North Norris Street, is very receptive to our service project and would LOVE for our children to bring smiles to the faces and warm the hearts of their residents!  These are the dates that we have blocked out for participation.  Please look at your calendars and see which one works best for your schedule.  Please email or call our project POC, Jenn Dew, with an RSVP of date and your children’s ages : jenn dew at sudden link dot net.

Wednesday, April 21 from 9:00-11:00
Saturday, April 24 from 1:00-3:00

We would like to suggest that you bring a bag of a couple of age appropriate (your child’s) activities to do with a resident.  Things that they might enjoy your child doing with/for them are coloring pages, reading books, doing a puzzle, singing a song, playing a game, and lots of talking I’m sure!!!  If you would like to bring a treat to share please let Jenn know that as well.  Based upon your family’s schedule or your child’s level of attention you do not have to feel committed to the entire 2 hour block.  We just want to be able to bring as much joy to the residents with our participation.

On
line Homeschooling Conference
For those of us that can't make it to a homeschooling conference there is one available online that Natasha found. Scroll down for more info:
I thought you guys may be interested in this. I signed up for it and it's only $20. I got a BUNCH of free downloads for homeschooling; some books, unit studies, fun activities, and cooking easy and cheap!!!! etc. The site is busy, so it takes time to look through it all.
Please pass this on to others who may benefit from it.
Thanks! Natasha

Dairy Tour (Change of Plans?)

To all of you who have RSVP'd for the Dairy Tour,

Thank you for the great response! So far we have 19 kids and 9 adults coming! I spoke with Mike at Cross Country Dairy today and he needs your input. He and his family own and run the dairy so to have him give our tour is great- it gives us the firsthand viewpoint of how it all works! But next Friday morning filled up with appointments he doesn't have any control over and he was hoping we could move the tour just one week. It would be April 23rd instead of 16th from 10-12. If too many people can't do this, then he thinks he could move some things around and see us on the 16th in the afternoon. Please email me back at secrest 14 at yahoo dot com and let me know what you can do. Thanks so much for your flexibility!

Also- many of you have asked for directions and I think it would be just easier for us to plan on meeting at Faith Family Christian Church on Norris and Llano and leaving there at 9:45, then we can caravan up. It is Northeast of there off of Norris. I will also get printed directions to you in case you can't make the caravan. Thanks :)

Pizza Recipes

Thanks for everyone who was able to come today. My kids and I had a wonderful time. Here are the links to the recipes I used today.

Whole Wheat and Honey pizza dough (I made the dough last night and kept it in the fridge for this morning.)

For the fruit pizza: mix cream cheese and honey together until it taste good. Spread on a sugar cookie and top with fresh fruit.

Enjoy,
Jami

Thursday, April 8 - RSVP today for Kids cooking Class

Please RSVP today for the Thursday April 8, Kid's Cooking Class. We will meet at the 801 Housing Community Center from 9:30-11AM. The kids will be making homemade pizza and a no bake dessert. The cost is $3 per child to cover the cost of food. Moms, we need pizza pans for baking (rectangle ones work better than circular pizza pans to optimize space in the oven) and rolling pins.

And moms, you have homework too! Please view this video when you have a chance. It is about 20 minutes long, but fantastic. It talks about the epidemic of obesity in the US.

We would love for some discussion about this video to be held on the blog and/or at the cooking class.

Updates for April

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to give a few updates for the month.

Bowling club is going to kick off this week for the month of April. It will be held at the base bowling alley every Wednesday in April from 10:30-11:30 am. Casey is the POC and would like to get a head count of who wants to be involved. Please e-mail her if you have a 6+/- year old who would enjoy this at casey pitts at hotmail dot com. Bowling techniques, what goes on behind the scenes with pins, and other interesting stuff will occur in the sessions. Thanks Casey!!!

Clovis is having a "Tea Party" if you are interested on April 15 from noon-1pm at the Curry County Courthouse 701 N. Main St. They are looking for kids to say the pledge of allegiance. If you would like to be involved or want more information please e-mail Erica at jhn ck 1776 at gmail dot com.

Our service project is in the works but we were not able to be a part of Cannon's Big Give. They required everyone to be adults in order to participate. But we are going to still move forward with getting to the nursing home to share a story/game/ or talent with the residents. We will get the word out to you as soon as we firm up the details!!

Please remember to e-mail Jami and Heather with your RSVPs this month for our activities.

Have a great week!

~Eva
